You can add music from iTunes Match to your devices in two ways:. With iTunes Match enabled, a cloud icon appears next to each artist or song. This icon means that the song or album is available from iTunes Match but isn't downloaded to your device. The cloud icon disappears when you download songs.
If you plan to download a lot of songs to your iPhone, connect to a Wi-Fi network instead of using cellular data. Wi-Fi is faster and doesn't count against your monthly data limit.
Most iPhones have some limits on monthly data use and most music libraries are large. If you use cellular to download songs, you may exceed the monthly limit and have to pay overage fees. Avoid using cellular data by following these steps:. Open Settings. Now, unless your phone is connected to Wi-Fi, it won't download anything. After you set up your iTunes Match, you only have to add a song on one device to access it on your other devices.
When your devices resync, the changes transfer to them. Deleting a song from iTunes used to be enough to remove it from all the devices you synced to your computer. But with iTunes Match, you have a decision to make every time you take a song out of your library. Right-click the song you want to delete. Select Remove Download to keep the song in your library but remove the file from your computer. You'll still be able to stream the song, but it won't take up space on your hard drive.
Select Delete from Library to remove the track from your computer and from iTunes Match. It will no longer appear in iTunes or on any of your other devices.
If you select a song and press the Delete key on your keyboard instead of the on-screen menu, that deletes the song both from your library and iCloud. When iTunes Match matches your music library to the iTunes database, it uses songs from the Apple primary iTunes library.

After you subscribe, the service automatically renews every year unless you cancel it. No other music manager program allows you to add music to iCloud or download it to your devices. The songs it matches from the iTunes Store won't necessarily be in those formats, however.
It doesn't delete the original song, so those files stay in their original format on your hard drive. You should always back up your original music files , even though iTunes Match keeps a copy in iCloud.
Making backups is particularly important for those high-quality music files you may own because if you delete the higher-quality version of the song from your computer, you'll only have the Kbps version from iTunes Match. When you subscribe to Apple Music, your music moves to your iCloud Music Library, and it will be available across all of your devices that are logged in to the same Apple ID, just as with iTunes Match. Do I Need iTunes Match? On a computer, you can stream or download songs from your iCloud Music Library. Select the iCloud button next to a matched song to download that song to your computer. If you double-click to play it, the song streams without downloading. On an iOS device, playing a song causes it to both play and download, while on an Apple TV , you can only stream music. Your iTunes playlists will sync to all of your devices via Match, except ones that include unsupported files like voice memos, videos, and PDFs.
As long as iTunes Match is turned on, it automatically attempts to add your new songs to the iCloud Music Library—you don't have to do anything. You can't upload songs that are larger than MB or longer than 2 hours to your iCloud Music Library. Songs with digital rights management DRM enabled will only upload if your computer is authorized to play them.
